Car, clothes, and houseware donations lead the pack among the places where
Americans make charitable donations without even thinking. Car donations can
make a change for people trying to get to work, donated clothes at least get
reused, and it's hard to throw away a trusty old blender when it is still in
working order. It's always Green and better to reuse.
Have too many old clothes that you can't seem to throw away? Donate them to
one of the many charities that call to tell you that they'll be in your
neighborhood picking up donations from front porches.
Have dishes, an underused food processor, or silverware that it seems a
shame to simply throw out? Donations are preferable to adding to our
landfills.
Car donations, on the other hand, are a different story. Unlike a blender or
an old tee shirt, junk cars take up a great deal of space in landfills, and
have the potential to make a significant adverse affect on our environment.
Car donations are becoming as common as AM Vet donations as charities
realize the windfall available if you can lure donations of old cars. Like
donations of clothes and housewares, donated cars might help underprivileged
Americans to dress and drive themselves. More often, these donations end up
being liquidated for pennies on the dollar.
