Car donation is all the rage. It all started with those annoying but
effective radio ads asking for cars for kids. Their success has led national
and local charities, as well as non-profits and churches, to launch their
own car donation operations.
The National Lung Association is only the largest of the new car donation
charities. Hundreds of small religious organizations ask for car donations
that can be fixed up to help single parents without a car.
Many dozens of new charities and non-profits looking to cure a disease, help
abused children, or educate the poor, start a car donation program each
year. Newest on the scene are the Green groups that are urging people to
ensure that their car donation is disposed of in an environmentally
conscious way.
In short, if you are thinking of making a car donation, there is no shortage
of potentially worthy organizations that come and pick up your junk car. The
challenge is make sure that your car donation is actually making a
difference for the charity you choose (and that it is disposed of properly
if you’re of the Green bent).
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and call several car donation charities.
Will the fluids from the car all be removed before your junk car is
recycled? How much money will your junk car actually be worth, and how much
of that does the charity get to those in need? Are they a 5013C charity,
meaning that you will be able to claim a tax deduction?
